Day 212 29/01/12 Packing packing
We got seriously stuck in to the packing today, we pulled apart everything in the house and made huge piles of stuff to store and huge pile of stuff to throw away and too big piles of stuff to squash into the suitcases. It was a very boring day for poor Michael as he hardly got any attention at all. I kept finding his interesting things to look at but after a few hours of this he made it obvious the he wanted some real attention. Still we could only do the bare minimum for him before getting on with the packing. Here he is resting on the remains of the bed and playing with an umbrella that kept him happy for quite a while.
Day 211 28/01/12 Sock collection
We went into town to meet our friend Earum today. She is the other blind Mum who we met at a meeting set up by our health visitor.

We met her and her little girl Natasha at the cafe run by Rocio’s friends from her English course Alina and Elizabeth.

Michael really enjoyed his taste of drinking chocolate.

It’s such a shame we never met Earum before this as she a font of knowledge about being a blind mum and a great person too. It’s like Rocio always says “Everything always comes late to me”. We’ll keep in contact with all of them via facebook I guess but we’ll miss them all the same.
This morning as prt of getting everything packed up I gathered together MIchael´s odd sock collection. He´s nearly 7 months old and it´s quite impressive. He loves to pull his own sock off.

DAy 210 27/01/12 Homestart
Today was Michael’s final drop in centre day. I think it has done him a world of good even though he hasn’t gone that many times. At least his is much more confident now than when he first visited them. I took him into the play room and left him with one of the careers today and just walked out, No problem. I kept an eye on him by peeking in through the window ever now and then but he was just fine and by the time it was finishing and I went to get him he was asleep on the bean bag.

Whilst Michael was playing and sleeping Rocio was doing the craft for the day which was making a model teddy bear out of sugar icing

and then a local councillor and a film crew turned up and filmed us and interviewed Rocio for local telly. Sorry to say we never saw it as we don’t have a telly.

Day 209 26/01/12 Party time
Today we had something of a party when volunteer Mandy, her boss Stephanie and Doerte all came to visit separately at the same time. Mandy brought us a whole load of collapsed boxes for our packing which will be extremely useful I’m sure. It was a really good way to say goodbye to some of our friends. We’ll really miss Mandy’s weekly visits. Sadly this one was cut short as we had an appointment at the bank and then a final visit to our favourite “Alley Cafe”.
Day 208 25/01/12 Boy in a bucket
We are starting to pack things ready for Peru now. There seems to be a lot more than I imagined. Michael is getting a bit bored roaming around the house in his baby walker whilst we pack things.
We had a visit from the napuccino woman today, Heather, who demonstrated a while range of washable nappies and sold us a set for taking to Peru. Very few people use re-useables over there so we need something good for him. These high tech fluffy conceptions will probably do for the boy until he is out of nappies. Michael himself got quite involved in choosing and eve spent time in the nappy bucket to check it out.

Day 207 24/1/12 Last chance to Primark
We went out into the city centre today to buy presents for the family in Peru and to check out the bargains in the various pound shops. Michael really likes his new sling. He seems very comfortably in it and slept most of the time in town.
